How much does a road test cost?
Road Skills Test Fee:  $50.00, payable by either cash, credit card, or check (made payable to LPDT or CDG).  Mailed or delivered to Century's Holland offic at 575 1/2 East 8th St., Holland, Mi.  49423

Re-Test Fee:  $35.00 if an applicant fails the Basic Control Skills, the Road Course, or fails to provide the proper documentation listed above.
What can I expect?

The road test will take about an hour to complete and there are three components of the road skills test in Michigan.  The first is a vehicle inspection that is conducted in the parking lot by the Road Test Examiner.  The examiner will be checking the following items to make sure they are working properly, head and tail lights, turn signals, brake lights, horn, windshield wipers, no cracks in the windshield, and so forth.  The most commonly overlooked items are the horn and the center mounted rear brake light (Normally mounted in the back window of the vehicle).  You must pass this portion before moving on to the basic control skills.

Any person who is thinking of taking the Road Skills Test, should look at and review the Michigan Road Skills Test Study Guide before they schedule a test.  Click on the Road Skills Test icon below for a complete copy of the manual.
What if I am 18 years old or older?

Any person 18 or older is required to take a Road Skills Test before they can get their license.  A person 18 or older is required to obtain a Michigan Temporary Instructional Permit (T.I.P.) before they can take the test.  A person who has a Michigan T.I.P. must possess the license for at least 30 days before they can take the road test.  There are some circumstances that the State of Michigan will waive the 30 day rule and they will write this on the T.I.P.

A person who is 18 or older will have to bring the following items to their road test:
1)  Their current and valid Michigan T.I.P
2)  A vehicle in good working condition
3)  Current insurance and registration paperwork for the test vehicle.
4)  Payment for the test ($50.00)

Please note:  When an applicant 18 or older is taking the road skills test, no adult may be in the vehicle with the applicant during the test.
